Adar II 1 - Rosh Hodesh Adar II

So the king's scribes were summoned . . . on the twenty-third day of the third month . . . Sivan; and letters were written, at Mordecai's dictation, to the . . . one hundred and twenty-seven provinces from India to Ethiopia . . . . written in the name of King Ahasuerus and sealed with the king's signet. . . . to this effect: The king has permitted the Jews of every city to assemble and fight for their lives; if any people or province attacks them, they may destroy, massacre, and exterminate its armed force together with women and children, and to plunder their possessions-- on a single day . . . on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month . . . Adar. The text of the document was to be issued as a law . . . it was to be publicly displayed . . . so that the Jews should be ready for that day to avenge themselves on their enemies. The couriers . . . went out in urgent haste at the king's command; and the decree was proclaimed in the fortress Shushan. Esther 8:9-14. For comparison, Sivan 23 this year is June 26 -- several weeks after Shavuot. So by this date Haman was dead and Adar 13 was about 9 months away. No whatshisname; no gragger.
