Three weeks ago, my friend, Joan, came to visit from Maine expressly so that we could spend time together painting. If nothing else, we proved to ourselves that it is not necessary to take a class in order to do en plein air painting! I'm not wild about this piece but I do like what I did with the texture of the bark and the rhythm of the pine cones.
I think the reason the earlier plein air images were were better is that I really loved the tree I was painting. Perhaps my teacher was not so far off when he said that I had bonded with that European Beech (see previous posts from July 27 to August 9)!
