Continuing from my July 21 posting, this is how the quilt looked when I added the cobblestones down one side. None of this is sewn in place, so I was free to experiment.

Yet Another Variation
Next I tried adding an entirely different set of elements, which had some nice things going, but it felt too dark. I think this layout works best when it's horizontal which is a problem since I want to use this on a bed. I know, I could add more (something, I don't know what) above and/or below but I don't want the quilt to be that large. I also feel like I want that central piece to have room to breath. Does this make sense?

Post Script
Tonight, on Flickr, I got some positive feedback on the July 21 photo of the central element alone. Makes me wonder if I should continue with more of the same blocks for the remainder of this quilt. That feels tedious and less creative, but maybe I'm just being lazy. I could use the cobblestones as centers for new blocks that are entirely framed with the new floral fabric which you have not yet seen. I'm excited about that newly found fabric! It was a birthday present to myself.
As always, I welcome your comments.
Stay tuned -- more variations will follow!
