Caitlin's Rose

Low Hanging Fruit
Remaking L11 - Caitlin's Rose was supposed to be a snap. The original (made ages ago) was too dark and wonky. Redrafted Brenda's diagram so it matched Jane's block made the first attempt into a real mind bender. Thank goodness I had that step behind me.

Not So Quick
Then it dawned on me -- since it was machine pieced last time, I had to redraft the block, again -- this time on graph paper, because I needed templates. It took three tries to get it right. Let me know if you need any of my measurements, or click on the photo and count the 1/4-inch squares.

The Fabric, the Construction
Despite my pastel color scheme, I wanted to keep the fussy cut with the little boy, so I used pastel green for the outer frame to emphasize the light greens in the central piece. The block is entirely hand pieced. It went pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I trimmed the outer seam allowances a bit close but I think it will be OK.

Dear Jane Progress = 122 blocks
47 left to go -- plus a few more replacement blocks. LOL!

Hi Meg, It's all hand pieced -- no applique. I just revised the description so that's clear.
