I attended the Gathering of Janiacs at the New England Quilt Museum last weekend and finally met Brenda! I enjoyed hearing her stories and seeing all the Baby Janes she and some of the attendees brought along.
Finally, A Few Decisions
I finally have made a few decision on my quilt! I will go ahead and piece the squares and sashing. I am hoping that as it comes together, I'll have an epiphany regarding the triangles/border. Because I want to leave the door open to the possibility of making the triangle blocks, I need to keep the sashing at 1/2" wide.
Sashing
That said, I am going to try doing something a little different with the pieces -- they will be laid out in a basket-weave configuration. I have a diagram I made in tables on MSWord. Does anyone know if PDFs can be uploaded to a blog posting? The basket weave will help me conserve on fabric (a half inch here and a half inch there) which is a true consideration (and one other reason I will not be using extra wide sashing). I've done some calculations and I'm pretty sure I have enough fabric to make the sashes. I'm not are sure about the sashing that goes all around the square blocks but I'll deal with that when I get there.
Baby Janes
That's it. I may post some photos of the Baby Janes here, if I get permission to do so.
