Row M

Major Memorable Moment
It's Row M all joined and sashed. Many a time, I doubted I'd ever see this day! I'm too excited to bother writing a poem.

It's impossible to not think of all that has happened in my life since I first started this project. I think of Jane Stickle, too. This song (from the Civil War era)  is on my mind, Hard Times Come Again No More. Here it is performed by Emmylou Harris and here by Yoyo Ma, James Taylor, and others. The lyrics are here.

One Little Tweak?
I may replace one block, D13 - Field of Dreams. It's too dark. It will be easy to replace -- it's at the end of a row and it's easy to make. Here's a close look at it. It's not the only batik, but its color is intense. What do you think?

As of April 29, 2012
All 13 rows are joined.

I love the soft colors of your Dear Jane.. It just may have changed my mind on how I will choose my colors!

and what a journey it has been. Congratulations. Now for the next decision wil she do the triangles ??? PS i think you are right to replace field of dreams. G 12 appears very dark also, could just be the picture though

Thanks for the comment, Sheila. Actually, several of my blocks are dark and I'm OK with that but D-13 has a lot of black mixed in with the green. I THINK that's why that one bothers me. I'm not sure.

Great job! Yes, field of dreams is definately too dark. Maybe because it's so simple there's nothing to distract the eye. Good catch. I'm enjoying the progress reports, keep going.

Woo!!!! Beautiful! And such a journey. Aesthetically, I can understand why you might want to replace D13. But at the same time, I almost think it should stay. I mean, you've been very particular about blocks throughout this project, but then somehow, that one made the cut or slipped by... kind of like it is supposed to be there. I know. That's a little out there. But it is what came to my mind. I'm weird that way. :P

Regardless-- it is a stunningly beautiful accomplishment! Many congratulations!!!!

hi, mindy
i'm so happy for you!!!you've done a GREAT job!your blocks are absolute beautiful and so very well made!
i kindda agree with debby, your field of dreams catch the attention, but it wouldn't hurt if it stayed there!
when i heard james taylor singing that song you posted i realized why i don't have the kind of feeling and realation to this project as you guys have...i belong to another culture and we've had different history. i sort of gave up my baby jane, i will definetly finish it some other way.
lots of love

Thank you, all, for your support!!!

Debby, Thank you!

Robin, I feel you've hit on something...but I think this is the reason I've left this block in place for so long. I think what I will do is get started on the triangles and give myself until the border is all done and ready to be sewn in place....to decide. I think having the border will help me decide if that block needs to go or stay.

Meg,
You know, the DJQ does not have to hold the same meaning for everyone. In fact, I'm certain that the quilt means many different things to different people. Either way, I hope you do something with the blocks you have.
