I've been blogging daily for months but, last night I just could not do it. I've only begun to catch up with my life after 6+ weeks of jury duty. Anyway, this is the block that was most recently selected for the Dear Baby Jane group.
This was the first of a random selection. That's ironic since while I was on jury duty, I was running a pilot study of a nutrition curriculum I developed for third-grade classrooms -- with randomly selected control and test groups. I'm dealing with 10 teachers in 8 schools. Each teacher chose their own start date in May (so the pilot would not run total havoc with their plans for the rest of the school year). Needless to say, this would have been a hectic time at work -- even if I had not been on jury duty. O, and did I mention, I also had a secretarial position to fill and then train, and then she left, because she found a full time position with benefits. Perhaps you can understand why I feel I need a vacation. I'll stop complaining now.
Lucky for me, I already completed this block years ago. Only tonight did it dawn on me there's a bit of irony in it's name, I8 - Pete's Paintbox, as I feel a tug-of-war within me: should I be painting or quilting? Obviously, I can do both. I think my presumption has been that doing one means doing less of the other. The truth may be that I spend enough time doing neither that perhaps that's a moot point. I know I need to stop beating myself up about this. Like this quilt, I'm a work in progress.
What I like about this fabric is that it uses a rather dark green but so sparingly that it still works on this pastel quilt. This fabric captures both the forest green and lime green of the inspiration fabric.
This is an interesting block pattern. I suspect that if the colors of the various pieces are switched a bit, this block might look quite different and, if three fabrics (or even six) were used instead of two, it could look entirely different!
