Gloriosa Lily
The peach/coral flowers in this block remind me of some gloriosa lilies I saw yesterday at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The ones I saw were mostly cream with brilliant red/coral edges. Why didn't I bring my camera with me? I saw so many gorgeous flowers.
Is This Really Two Projects?
When I first made these pentagon flowers, they were all going to be part of one quilt. I'm beginning to think I actually have two colorways going and may end up breaking these flowers into a two projects: one in pinks, reds, and browns with maybe a touch of powder blue and another in salmons and peaches. The aqua flower is no longer part of the plan and needs a home.
Coral, Salmon, and Peach
Meanwhile (what else is new?), another project is calling me! In fact, I'm begining to think that all the salmon and peach pentagons will get unsewn, and added to that new project. Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to find quilting-weight fabrics in corals, peaches, and salmons? It's much easier if you look at the home decor fabrics but most of them are the wrong weight.
Making Do
Anyway, "making do" was one of the themes of the Art in Bloom event at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, which I attended yesterday with a friend. Due to the Icelandic volcano's impact on floral imports, the flower designers had to do a lot of last minute scrambling and "making do." In spite of the limitations, the Boston and New Hampshire floral designers made beautiful interpretations of the museum's art! My friend even overheard someone say that the flowers looked even better than last year.
Background Fabric
Some of you have asked about the white background for the photos of the pentagon flowers. I'll cover that in my next posting.
