The petals for this pentagon flower were made from the same fabric as those for the previous posting, but I think these fussy cuts work so much better.
What Is That Background?
Several of you have asked about the white background for my pentagon flower photos. It's not quilted. It's my spring/summer coverlet made of matelasse. Matelasse is a heavy, thick fabric woven on a jacquard loom. It appears to be padded, but actually, it has no padding.
Here's a definition, and here's another definition with two pronunciations. The name comes from the French word, matelassé means “quilted,” “padded,” or “cushioned.” Matelasse is usually made in a solid color -- typically white or ivory. It comes in all different patterns. I love the simple circles and scalloped edges on mine, and how it feels when I run my hand across the top of it. Funny thing: I never thought of it as quilting. I just through it had a nice weight. In case you were wondering, it's easy to clean in the washer and dryer. What could be better?

Ratz! Another one that I just fell in love with. These are just so amazing!
Hi Minka, I love your fussy cuts. Fantastic!!! In answer to your comments on my blog about the large rondels, the 1st one
is antique fabric, the next 2 are furnishing fabrics and the bird is a new fabric. I love using these different types of fabrics. Cheers Sharron
Your pentagon flowers are beautiful!
May I ask what you're making with them?
I was wondering how you'll join them?
Love your fabric choices!
Cheers!
Mary Ann,
Thanks for visiting and commenting. Originally, I was inspired by one block on this quilt by Brigitte Giblin: http://www.flickr.com/photos/helentphotos/3312087515/
But now, I'm not certain.
