Three Blocks in Three Days
One block a day, three days in a row! Woohoo! Hand piecing this Dear Jane block, J3 - Rick's Volleyball Net, was pretty straight forward. No redrafting necessary.
The biggest dilemma was the fabric selection. I had two fabrics candidates and two blocks that could take either fabric. The other block and the other fabric will be my next project. This was the first block in a new trip-round-the-world ring of all yellow blocks.
Yellow Fabrics Are Tricky
In the early years, I made a few blocks in fabrics that match the color of French's mustard. The contrast with the ivory fabric was good but the color was too harsh for this quilt. It's a challenge to locate light yellow fabrics that are pastel enough but also provide enough contrast with the ivory fabric.

Case in point: I did a nice job with lots of fussy cuts on I9 - Chase a Myth but little of it shows. The smaller the pieces, the more important it is to have good contrast -- unless you are trying to disguise mistakes. Click on this image and you will see my fussy cuts. Look for the teeny-tiny white flowers.
The first photo shows how the block will look when it's set into the quilt top, but you have to see how it looks right now -- the fussy cuts are so cool! Click on the image to enlarge it.
