Family Reunion

In the Beginning
I don't know when I started my Dear Jane quilt. Most likely it was 1999 or early 2000. I do rememnber trying to make this block, C12 - Family Reunion,  -- over and over. I went through a lot of fabric. I was trying to do it by machine but did not know about paper piecing. When Marilyn taught me how to piece by hand, my whole quiting life changed. I hate being precise on the machine; it gives me a back ache. Hand stitching is another story; I really enjoy most of it.

Facing the Truth
So I thought I was all done with this block, but the truth is that the lime green clashes with my other blocks and makes them look dingy. It feels good to finally have replaced this 49-piece block.

Templates -- Old and New
At least I was able to use my old templates. Back in the day, I made my templates from old x-ray film with graph paper glued on top. This time around, I replaced the smallest template with transparent plastic so that I could easily position my 25 fussy cuts.

Fabric
For me, "family reunion" means all the interesting personalities and their common bond, and that's what all those fussy cuts symbolize for me. I skipped the ivory so that it's clear this is a green block (unlike the block to the right). The two  fabrics were previously used in:
Dear Jane Progress = 156 blocks; 3,210 pieces
As of November 14, I have replaced 14 blocks. Some might end up on the back of my quilt but many of them may need new homes. I 'm thinking of a give away. What do you think?

I hand sewed my C 12 too, but it is a long time since I worked on my Dear Jane.

I like your new C-12, but I also like your old C-12!
