This pattern (from my friend Cynthia) could easily be used with other yarns and gauges. The number of stitches per diamond could also be modified to suit your taste.
I considered adding beads but this project has taken long enough already.

Diamond Patch Scarf
Abbreviations, Materials
K = knit
K2tog = knit two stitches together
This pattern can be used with a wide variety of knitting yarns and needles. For this particular scarf, I used a very fine sock wool and size 0 needles
Directions
- Make first diamond.
- Row 1: cast on 30 stitches
- All even rows: K all stitches
- Row 3: K13, K2tog twice, K13
- Row 5: K12, K2tog twice, K12
- Repeat sequence until 2 stitches remain.
- Next row is even so K all stitches
- K2tog. You will be left with one stitch.
- Make second diamond
- Pick up 14 more stitches on the left side of the square, then cast on 15 more stitches (30 stitches). That's row 1 of the second diamond.
- All even rows: K all stitches.
- Row 3: K13, K2tog twice, K13
- Row 5: K12, K2tog twice, K12.
- Repeat sequence until 2 stitches remain.
- Next row is even so K all stitches.
- K2tog. You will be left with one stitch.
- Make a third diamond
- This time, pick up stitches on the right side of the square.
- Otherwise, the directions are the same as for the second diamond.
- Repeat the instructions for the second and third diamonds, making the scarf as long as you wish. Cast off the last stitch. Work in any loose ends from starting a new skein, etc.
