Jewelry Marathon.Part 2

As I mentioned yesterday, my niece and I had a beading marathon this week. We spent a good part of her five-day visit either making jewelry or talking about it!

She brought along a gorgeous necklace (a gift from her mother) made by Ayala Bar of Tel Aviv. These photos do not fully convey the impact of the lovely mix of textures and colors resulting from the clever use of metals, beads, and fabric. Here's a look at the back.  Click on the photos for a closer look.

All those discs are covered in fabric. Some are also decorated with beads. The necklace also includes tiny pink braid and right next to that a tiny folded daisy shape made of taupe velvet. A pansy made of lavender and yellow ribbon is in the center. Below it, dangles an aquamarine-colored bead and then a tiny piece of sparkly fabric crimped with metal into a purse-like shape.

I found the same necklace on Flickr here and here.  Ayala Bar's designs continue to evolve and the recent ones show glass covers over the fabric-covered discs. You can find her jewelry for sale here; you can look at more of her designs here and here.

The necklace was the inspiration for a new pair of earrings which I hope to post this week.

Hi Minka, I have a few pieces of Ayala Bar. I LOVE her jewellry. It reminds me of scrappy quilts. Cheers Sharron
