Shoot the Blocks (Photographing Quilt Blocks).4

When I photograph a quilt block, I align my block with the edge of something straight -- in this case a slider track. When a block is shot at an angle, it can appear warped. For example, in the first photo, the pink border does not align with the edges of the paper and the green border does not align with the edges of the block.

In the second photo, the pink border aligns with the edges of the block and the green border aligns with the corners of  (nearly) every green triangle. Ideally, everything is  in plumb.

The movement of your camera and wrists from a warped image to a plumb one can be subtle. To get the camera lens perfectly parallel to the surface (in this case, the floor), be sure that your straight edges (horizontal and vertical) align with the edges of your camera's viewfinder.
