Bloggers Quilt Festival

What a great idea -- the Bloggers Quilt Festival!  To visit Amy's blog, simply click on the red words above or use the button (at the bottom of the screen -- scroll way down) to see the 579 entries from all over the world -- all the quilts were made and/or owned by bloggers! Jump over and add have a look!
Thank you for visiting and for your comments!

"Shades of Black and White" was made for my brother and his partner. They wanted a black and white quilt to use when taking naps in their living room. It's a crazy log cabin with many different fabrics including printed corduroy (for the darkest centers of the dark blocks -- click on the last photo). Before I delivered the quilt to their home, I took some pictures of the quilt on my bed and also entered the quilt into the 2008 Vermont Quilt Festival. That was a fun experience and I learned a lot! (I'm still learning how to photograph a quilt so that you can tell it really is not as crooked as it appears in some of these photos.)
Here are some of my favorite photos of the quilt. If you click on them, they will expand. You can find more photos at my quilting set on Flickr. I've blogged about this quilt way too many times. These posts will also provide more photos and one posting even has a musical selection inspired by one of the fabrics!

What a fantastic, dramatic quilt! To photograph my quilts, I use lots of wide, double-sides tape to hold it in place on an outside shady wall, and stand as far back as possible - preferably with a tripod.

I like the play of the white on black and black on white fabrics in this quilt. The diagonal stripes remind me of one of the first quilts I ever made. Thanks for sharing.

I've seen this quilt in the flesh (or whatever you call it) and it's really quite striking. Minka's a good photographer but it's a challenge to do justice to this quilt. She's a wonderful quilter and textile artist.

Black and white is such a great dramatic color combination, and terrible to try to photograph! What a nice quilt, and a nice thing for you to make!

On a side note, it's fun to see how many are working on Dear Jane - my forever project, maybe it's time to work on it again!
